Jameson Dublin International Film Festival

JDIFF kicks off this Thursday the 18th with Neil Jordan’s latest movie ‘Ondine’ setting the ball rolling on a very packed schedule of international film screenings.

The festival programme boasts over 120 movie screenings between February 18th and 28th including a special selection of films under the umbrella of ‘Michael Dwyer Season‘ as a tribute to the late co-founder of the festival. Other special highlights include a Kristin Scott Thomas Tribute, a Kenneth Anger Retrospective, the 2nd Annual Library Film Quiz, Celebrating VooDooDog and the Volta Awards.

It’s quite a hectic schedule but nicely laid out in their day-by-day programme on page 9 of the supplement which you can grab here.

Here’s a selection of the stuff that tickled my fancy:

I was delighted to see that Moore Street Masala is included in the Irish Film Board shorts screenings – my 30 seconds of Bollywood fame from a most gorgeous April morning last year rides again :)

Tickets are getting snapped up very quickly so hot foot it to the ticket office at Curved St, Temple Bar, buzz the ticket sales people on 016877974 or get them online at www.jdiff.com to sort your fix.

TRON screening at the IFI

So it’s Jeff Bridges Season at the IFI running from last weekend until the end of February.

Here’s the list of screenings:

  • Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (today)
  • Hollywood Cowboy (Hearts of the West) – Sat 13th
  • TRON (Wed 17th)
  • The Fabulous Baker Boys (Thurs 18th)
  • Jagged Edge (Fri 19th)
  • Cutter’s Way (Mon 22nd)
  • The Fisher King (Thurs 25th)
  • The Big Lebowski (Sun 228th)

One of my favourite geeky movies of all time is TRON. As often with the geeky genre it’s not so much the script or storyline that puts it on the favourites list but the visual treats and cooing at old-school CGI.

A full list of times for all the screenings is available here. Looking forward to catching plenty more movies at the newly revamped IFI this year – it’s looking fantastic and the addition of the third screen will no doubt spice things up even more.

FOWD London 2010

Yesterday I mentioned that I’d got word of FOWD 2010 coming to London in May via a Facebook mail. Here’s the skinny if you’re interested and aren’t yet connected on Facebook.

Future of Web Design is returning to London on Monday May 17th 2010. We have made a few exciting changes.

Running for three days (17th – 19th May) it will consist of two conference days, each comprising of two tracks, and culminating in a day of intimate workshops. That’s a lot of sessions to choose from!

As well as the extra day we have also changed the format of the workshops. This year we are offering full day workshops to give you the opportunity to get deeper into the subject.

The conference will take place at the lovely Brewery in the City of London and workshops will be held at Wallace Space Kings Cross.

A brand new web site with full details of speakers and topics will launch in mid February.

Will be interesting to see if the exciting changes will mean a reduction in ticket prices or even different ticket options. I’d really love to go. I attended FOWA in Dublin last year, my first ‘industry event’ if you will and left it feeling very positive, inspired and excited even though I’m more a web maker than an app maker.

The fact that it’s on over weekdays will make travel and accomodation somewhat more affordable at the very least so here’s to a trip to London in May – time to start stashing some cash in the piggybank :)

Aida – here we go!

So we had dress rehearsals for Aida last night at the O2. To be honest, I’ve got mixed feelings going into tonight’s performance but I won’t go into that right now.

Here’s the O2 stage with both the male and female choirs giving it socks to the sweet orchestral accompaniment from below. The sound in there is fantastic.

Darragh & Ruairi (I think!) before going on stage:

If you’re going, well myself and Niamh will do our best to wave our lovely palm leaves at you from front left of the stage while trying to fall off and into the orchestra.

Oh and hopefully, you’re not too sensitive to the aroma of horse manure. I’ll leave you with that thought.
