Irish Web Awards – looking forward & looking back

W
W

Hard to believe it’s almost a year since I took my precious styrofoam W home from the first Irish Web Awards. It has even survived moving house with me.

Last October I headed along to the Irish Web Awards despite being stood up at the last minute. It was my first “internet event”. I was but a fledgling Twitter user and barely cutting my teeth at blogging (not much of a change there!). Despite that, I was surprised by how many faces and names I recognised. First and foremost, it was great to see so much wonderful local web design and development talent on show getting recognised. It was also a great opportunity to meet with other people in various aspects of the web industry from designers to bloggers to project managers to programmers and many others. In short, I had a brilliant time and here’s hoping for more of the same tomorrow night.

Still undecided?

Here’s what Alan thought, what Phil thought and captured, Alexia has words and videos, see how SpunOut made their mark, the master of ceremonies with some unique captures while Sabrina quite enjoyed it too. There’s plenty photos on Pix.ie and Flickr too.

Tickets

Grab one here & remember to bring along your printed ticket on the night.

Running order, untuxedos and cake – the important stuff  all listed.

See you there :)

Playtweet – the world’s biggest Twitter client

I have fallen madly in love with the Playhouse project. It’s beautiful, it’s fun and now it’s interactive. Tonight, Liberty Hall in Dublin is the world’s biggest Twitter client.

How do you get your tweet up there? Simple. Just add the hashtag #playtweet to your tweets. Here’s the live video & audio stream:

Watch live video from playhousedublin on Justin.tv

Here’s a shot of one of my favourite animations so far. Hat tips to Daft.ie, the Ulster Bank Dublin Theatre Festival and SIPTU for a really awesome piece of work.

Happy @playhousedublin earlier

Find out more about how it’s all put together here on the Playhouse blog and vote for your favourite animation right here.

Moore Street Masala – my big screen debut :)

Back in April, Darragh put a post on Culch.ie titled “Be part of a massive Bollywood dance scene in Dublin”. How could I resist? Myself and a few other messers signed up and on a blissfully sunny Sunday morning hit Moore St to be put through our paces for Moore Street Masala which is being screened this week.

Trailer

I honestly have no idea what to expect but of course can’t wait to see how the Bollywood routine at the end works out! It was heaps of fun to be involved in and I would definitely be up for doing more.

Where can you see it?

This Saturday October 10th at the Lighthouse cinema at 1.30 as part of the Darklight ‘Exposure’ event. It’s also being shown at the IFI as part of the New Irish Film Board Shorts on Tuesday 13th at 6.30 pm.

The official site (under construction) is here. Thanks D for the heads up (once again)!

Keep track of the competition at the website, on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Culture Night 2009 – “see all sorts”!

Culture Night 2009 is happening tonight and there’s a huge variety of free events on all around Dublin and around the country for it.

There’s so much on, I honestly don’t know where to begin and I simply haven’t had the time to write a proper post about it.

Darragh did however and if you want a quick guide to some of the special stuff that’s happening at Dublin Culture Night, check out his post on Culch.ie. Check out the full brochure and maps on the website at culturenight.ie.

There’s a record-breaking attempt happening in Tralee tonight as part of their Culture Night. They are trying to set the Guinness World Record for the longest Irish dancing line ever and need over 10,000 bodies to do so! There’s prizes for every 1,000th person who registers too so get registered and get involved if you can. Best of luck to them!

Don’t forget to throw a glance to Liberty Hall as it gets all lit up by Playhouse for the next few weeks. Be sure to upload your photos to the special Pix.ie group at http://pix.ie/group/playhouse.

Whatever you get up to this weekend, have a blast.
